How to Change a Diaper
New parents, especially dads who have had very little babysitting experience, are a little apprehensive when it comes to changing a newborns diaper. You might not know exactly what you need, the steps to follow or which order to do them so this is a helpful little guide.
Here is the procedure for disposable diapers: First, lay the baby down on the safe surface. If using a changing table, you can engage the safety straps. Pre-open the clean diaper and have it nearby. Make sure that the wet wipes are already showing through the opening in the container. Remove the baby's clothes and the soiled diaper. You can then place a burp cloth over the lower part of the baby (especially if a boy) to help prevent getting sprayed by any accidents.
If you are changing the baby in a public area then you want to have a towel or cloth down, this will protect your baby from germs
Undo the diaper, this could involve taking out pins, or tearing off the tabs on the Huggies or Pampers diapers
Taking preparation for a work before doing it makes it faster and easier to accomplish. Success of a work depends on preparation. So collect the necessary equipment needed to change the diaper of the baby and put them near baby changing tables. Many things are needed to change baby's diaper but the most important things are new diaper, wet wipes, clips, talcum powder and glycerin.
Once the child is clean and dry, lift his or her legs up so you can place the fresh diaper underneath. If you need to apply some creams or ointments, do so now before you close the diaper. Once the baby is well taken care of, pull the diaper front up and with one hand keep it in one place to not move away. Use your other hand to pull on a tape tab and bring it to the front.
Time is a precious commodity that cannot be replaced. That is why it is so important for parents to master multi-tasking and time management. For easy to use diaper disposal systems, look for hands-free solutions. Avoid systems that may require you to push down diapers, twist and/or turn things.
As some of you may have already experienced, touching leads to bigger messes. You try to push the diapers down into the pail and you end up with a mess on your hands...literally.
If your baby had a bowel movement, take the soiled diaper into the washroom and dump the solids into the toilet. If you use flushable liners, you will be able to simply lift the flushable liner off the diaper and drop it in the toilet.
Put the used diaper in your diaper pail to be washed, ensure the lid of your pail is securely closed and finish up by washing your hands.
Now get hold of the baby's ankles and gradually raise his or her bottom up. Begin cleaning the bottom part utilizing the damp wipes you have made in advance. In case you encounter a soiled area, you can make use of the front side of the old diaper to clean the mess away. When you are done cleaning the baby's skin, draw out the dirty diaper and wipes from under the baby and place them somewhere.
To provide a diaper that stays in position and also has plenty of absorbency, fold one diaper lengthwise until there are three folds; turn up one end of the diaper to create six thicknesses, and lay the folded diaper inside the kite-folded diaper. This puts eight layers of diaper where it is most needed. Because the diaper is bulky, this method should only be used during the night, not when the baby is awake and active.
